New Tailoring Gear for Mages!

Dreamcloth is the new Spellweave, Ebonweave, Moonshroud combined into one cloth. 8x Bolt of Embersilk Cloth and 30x Volatile Air, Earth, Shadow, Life, Fire or Water combine to make one Dreamcloth. One Volatile Air, etc. is equal to one mote. It seems they are doing away with the 10->1 conversion of the elementals. Nice!

There are about 8  different transmutes with a one week cooldown, which equates to being able to still craft one Dreamcloth per day.

Gear! Reagents for waists are 4 Dreamcloth. Reagents for legs are 6 Dreamcloth. They require tailoring of 525.

Cost breakdown:
One bolt of Embersilk = 5 Cloths

Waists costs 32 Bolts of Embersilk (160 Cloth) and 120 Volatiles
Legs cost 48 Bolts of Embersilk (240 Cloth) and 180 Volatiles

New Profession of Archaeology

With Cataclysm comes a new skill of Archaeology. It is essentially a secondary gathering profession that looks interesting. Once Archaeology is trained, you can see digsites on your map (not mini-map). There are always four dig sites per continent. These will not change until you dig one out. You only find sites in zones of your level or lower. A level 25 character will have all 4 sites per continent in level 25 zones. This means that no dig sites will appear for that character in Outland or Northrend until he reaches a minimum level for the zones.
For instance, a low level character on Kalimdor might have sites in Ashenvale and Stonetalon, where a level 82 might have ones in Uldum, Ashenvale, Stonetalon, and Silithus. Sites are race specific. You can usually guess the race by the location. Some race locations are only available on some continents. You need both a minimum character level and a minimum archaeology level to use some sites.

And the best thing of all: Dig sites are player specific. There is no competition for dig sites. Sweet!

Here is a nice video that pretty much explains it all:

Mage Changes in Cataclysm

In World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, we’ll be making lots of changes and additions to class talents and abilities across the board. In this preview, you’ll get an early look at what's in store for the mage class, including a rundown of some of the new spells, abilities, and talents, and an overview of how the new Mastery system will work with the different talent specs.

New Mage Spells

Flame Orb (available at level 81): Inspired by Prince Taldaram’s abilities in Ahn'kahet and Icecrown Citadel, this spell allows the mage to cast a flaming orb that travels in front in a straight line, sending beams that cause fire damage to passing targets. Once it’s cast, the mage is free to begin casting other spells as the Flame Orb travels. While the spell will be useful to any spec, Fire mages will have talents that improve it, possibly causing the Flame Orb to explode when it reaches its destination.

Flame Orb is not channeled. It may have a cast time, but after that is fire and forget. We want to try the line idea because there aren’t any spells that work that way currently. Giving it a target to follow makes it feel more like a fancy dot – useful perhaps, but nothing that feels really new. It will be balanced for single-target damage, but if you can launch it in such a way that it will hit multiple targets, then you’re just being awesome.

Time Warp (level 83): Grants a passive Haste effect much like Bloodlust or Heroism to party or raid members. It also temporarily increases the mage's own movement speed. Time Warp will be exclusive with Bloodlust and Heroism, meaning you can’t benefit from both if you’ve got the Exhaustion debuff, though the movement-speed increase will still work even when under the effects of Exhaustion.
